Notice of increases in local car park charges from January 2011
Car parking charges at Reigate & Banstead Borough Council’s pay and display car parks are to rise from 1 January 2011. Changes will also be made to operational charging hours. The changes are to address the Council’s financial position and accommodate the increase in VAT in January 2011.
The changes are as follows:
- Charging hours will change to include Sundays and Bank Holidays in Marketfield Road, Redhill, Bell Street and Upper West Street, Reigate, High Street, Horley and High Street, Banstead. The flat rate to park on a Sunday will be £1.
- Normal charging hours at all car parks on a Saturday will be extended from 4pm to 6pm.
- Under the new charging structure the cost of a full day’s parking (up to 16 hours) in Redhill & Reigate will rise by 20p to £5.20 and in Banstead and Horley a full day’s parking (up to 16 hours) will go up by 20p to £4.20.
- The cost of parking for up to 20 minutes in Banstead, Horley, Redhill and Reigate car parks will go up by 10p to 30p.
- The price for parking up to an hour will go up by 20p to £1 in Redhill and Reigate and from 60p to 80p in Banstead and Horley.
- In The Mound car park at Tattenham Corner free parking for the first three hours will remain the same, and a charge of £2 applying to long-term parkers only.
- Season ticket prices will also be rising, with a monthly season ticket costing £75 + VAT. A quarterly ticket will cost £185 + VAT and an annual season ticket £638 + VAT.
Cllr Allen Kay, Executive Member for Regeneration said:
“The majority of the charges have remained the same in many of the Borough’s car parks for the last two years. The 20p for 20 minute band has not risen for some 8 years. The proposed new charges are competitive to the local area. We have also limited the increase in charges for short-term parking which we hope will encourage more people to visit their local shopping areas. To continue improving the service, we’re also proposing to make a number of changes to improve facilities for people with young children.”
The new parking charges are to be displayed in the car parks and on the Council’s website www.reigate-banstead.gov.uk. Pay and display machines will be reprogrammed with the new charges so it is essential that motorists using these car parks check the parking restrictions and charges when buying a ticket.
Regular users of the Council’s car parks may wish to purchase a season ticket. Season tickets offer good value for money and save users from the need to bring change for the ticket machine every time they park. For more information about purchasing a season ticket contact the Council’s Help Line on 01737 276000 or see the information on the parking section of our website www.reigate-banstead.gov.uk.

There does not seem to any parking for the disabled. is this and oversight or have I missed where it states disabled parking will remain free in carparks
Nick - good question - the disabled spaces will all remain and will all continue to be free for those with a disabled badge.
