In advance of the coldest months of the year, SCC has published its plans for dealing with ice and snow.
Local roads will be classified in the following way (follow this link to see which road is in which category: http://www.surreycc.gov.uk/?a=690642):
- Priority 1 Routes will be treated as routine pre salting in advance of any forecast frost, ice and snow.
- Priority 2 Routes will be treated only when there is prolonged and persistent frost, ice or snow which is expected to continue, or following snow, but only when Priority 1 Routes have been cleared.
- Priority 3 Routes to be treated following significant snowfall in combination with Priority 2, again only when Priority 1 Routes have been cleared.
- All other Routes will be treated following significant snowfall, but only once 1, 2 and 3 have been cleared and this will be determined by the Operations Group.
All grit bins will be refilled with grit and sand during October, a further restock will happen following severe weather.
Footways receiving priority for gritting and snow clearance:
- High Street, Station Road, London Road, perimeter of the town centre including Cromwell Road, Queensway, Marketfield Way, Princess Way and approaches to the Station. Two walkways will be cleared along each side of the pedestrian precinct.

In addition the Borough Council, as in previous years, will use some of its staff to assist SCC clearing snow and gritting in main pedestrian areas, as well as maintaining its refuse and recycling collections to the fullest extent possible.
As in recent years both Councils will use their websites and Twitter to keep residents updated on the latest situation. We, as your local councillors, will do all we can to get the information out to you quickly.
