A great night out for theatre lovers and families is on offer at the Harlequin Theatre on Thursday 2 and Friday 3 April. Star for a Night is Reigate & Banstead Borough Council’s annual talent showcase for local young people, this year featuring singers, dancers and actors from local schools and colleges.
“We’re extremely lucky to have some very talented young people performing in Star for a Night this year,” says Cllr Ros Mill, Reigate & Banstead’s Portfolio Holder for Leisure and Wellbeing. “The hard work of our young artists is paying off and the audience can expect polished performances and a great evening of family entertainment in a high quality show at the Harlequin. Tickets are an absolute bargain at just £8 from the Harlequin box office.”
This year’s show is based around the theme of ‘time’ and features the young people performing well-loved classic pop songs such as Dolly Parton’s ‘Nine to five’ and Cyndi Lauper’s ‘Time after time’ alongside more recent hits such as ‘A moment like this’ which was covered by X Factor winner Leona Lewis.
Cllr Mill continues: “Talent needs nurturing so Star for a Night is the Council’s way of giving our young people all the benefits of the experience of performing in a real theatre as well as access to expert tuition along the way. The added bonus is that it’s an excellent team building opportunity for local youngsters and helps to develop their confidence.”
The event is supported by funding from budgets from Reigate & Banstead borough councillors and Surrey county councillors as well as So You Wanna Be, Urban Play Dance Classes and the Harlequin Theatre.
