A man has been sentenced to 3-years and 4-months following a stabbing in Redhill which occurred at the end of last year.
Officers were called to St Anne’s Drive near the Home Cottage pub at around 6pm on Wednesday, 10 December after a man in his 20s was stabbed in the chest and buttock because he refused to hand over his mobile phone to the attacker. The victim was taken to St Georges Hospital in Tooting for treatment and has since made a full recovery.
The following day Dominic Appau-Kwateng, 21, of Parritt Road in Redhill was arrested and later the same month was charged with assault (GBH). He was remanded in custody and on Thursday, 5 March appeared at Guildford Crown Court where he pleaded guilty. He was sentenced at the same court on Friday (Friday, 24 April).
Investigating officer Detective Constable Jason Kelly, said:
“The victim was extremely brave throughout the investigation and for this he must be praised. Understandably, the assault was traumatic for him and I hope the sentence handed to the offender today goes some way to bring him closure from his ordeal.
“The offender showed complete disregard for others, not only did he stab his victim twice but he committed the offence in a busy public place and I am pleased he will now be off the streets of Surrey for some time.
“I hope the sentence demonstrates our commitment to keeping Surrey safe and reassures the public we will do all we can to bring violent offenders and those who cause fear in our community to justice.”
