Crispin Blunt MP will meet the Rail Minister, Claire Perry MP, tomorrow (Tuesday 26th May) to keep up the pressure on the Government to take action for commuters affected by the deteriorated train services from stations in the Reigate constituency. He will meet the Minister together with other MPs whose constituents are also affected by the problems on the Brighton Main Line.
Crispin will make clear that a central plank of his election campaign was the need to address the disruption on the railways and to bring fairness to commuters who are facing three years of reduced service while works take place at London Bridge, yet have received no discount or compensation. Crispin worked with the other parliamentary candidates to gain cross-party support for the campaign by the Reigate and Redhill District Rail Users’ Association to extend Oyster Zone 6 fares to Merstham, Redhill, Earlswood, Salfords and Reigate.
Crispin has also called on commuters to protest on Monday 1st June, suggesting that commuters arrange to work from home or engage their employers in writing to the Transport Secretary. He said:
“Monday 1st June will be a chance for commuters to unite in sending a strong message to Ministers, Southern and Network Rail.
“If you haven’t signed the petition for zone 6, please do not delay.
“If you haven’t spoken to your employer about the impact the service is having on your commute, please do. Get them engaged and ask them to write to the Transport Secretary. You will find a template on my website.
“Please tweet your support on 1st June for #FairFares2015.
“All this will help show the public support for the campaign when I take your case to Ministers.”
