Heat seeking vehicles will be hitting the streets of Redhill, and across the Borough next week (week commencing 22nd February 2010) to help identify homes that could benefit from improved insulation.
Reigate & Banstead Borough Council is working in partnership with insulation company Energy Saving Partnership to help householders in the borough to save energy and money.
The HeatSeekers vehicles use thermal imaging technology to help homeowners pinpoint where heat is escaping heat from their homes and identify whether their property would benefit from further insulation measures.
Operating at night, during the colder months, each vehicle has the ability to assess up to 1,000 properties an hour.
Once the area has been imaged, a dedicated team of energy advisors will carry out free surveys, talking to residents about how they could improve their insulation and to reduce both their energy bills and carbon footprint, and making them aware of the various subsidised insulation schemes on offer.
Cllr Julian Ellacott, Redhill councillor and the Council’s Executive Member for Environment, said:
“The HeatSeekers’ thermal imaging vehicles have created quite a buzz in other parts of the country and we are one of only two areas in Surrey to have them. The technology has already helped improve energy efficiency in thousands of homes across the country.
“The Council is keen to ensure that residents are aware of the grant funding that is available to all homeowners to significantly reduce the cost of home insulation improvements. This scheme will play an important role in the Council’s long-term plans to make homes in the borough more energy efficient, cutting residents’ energy bills and tackling climate change.”
In order to carry out the insulation measures generated through HeatSeekers, the project has teamed up with Mark Group, the UK’s largest insulation and energy efficiency installation company.
Homeowners who would like a free insulation survey on their property can call HeatSeekers on 0845 390 9390 (local rate call).
