About Me: Councillor David Pay has been a Borough Councillor for ten years, having been elected for the ward of Redhill East in 2000. Two years later he was re-elected for the ward of Redhill West, where he continues to serve.

David was Mayor of the Borough in 2006/7 and is currently serving as Mayor for the second time.

Since his election he has served as a member of the Planning Committee, holding the position of vice-chairman for two terms, and more recently, chairman for two terms. He has also been vice-chairman on the Overview and Scrutiny Committee.

He has served for ten years with the Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty Partnership, chairing it for two years (examples of AONBs in the Borough include Colley Hill and Gatton Park). Always a defender of the metropolitan Green Belt his interest remains with both the natural and the built environment, always advocating the use of local materials fashioned in the local style.

David left school at fifteen and was apprenticed to his uncle as a clockmaker with a break of two years for national service with the RAF. He then returned to complete his apprenticeship. His work is concentrated on the restoration and retail of 17th, 18th and 19th Century clocks, watches and barometers.

As a Member of the British Horological Institute Examinations Board and the British Antique Dealers Association (BADA) he attends West Dean College to assess students on the Horological Course. He also advises and assesses at both Fine Art and Antiques Fairs at Olympia.

When they have the time, David and his wife Barbara like walking and gardening.
