1010tag The next Reigate & Banstead Borough Council Executive meeting (postponed from Thursday 7 January) will be considering a recommendation that the Council signs up to the ’10:10 campaign’ which would commit the Council to achieving a 10 per cent reduction in CO2 emissions in 2010 as part of its ambitious plans to try to achieve a much larger reduction in such emission across its activities by March 2014.

Cllr Julian Ellacott, Executive Member for Environment said: “Signing up to the 10:10 target is a small but useful step on the way to meeting the Council’s longer term plans, which are significantly more ambitious than this. We will be careful to ensure that the short term target does not put our more ambitious longer term projects at risk.”

“Our plans are based around sensible energy efficiency projects which will not only reduce the Council’s carbon footprint, but will also make concrete financial savings, helping to keep Council Tax down in future.”

Reigate & Banstead Borough Council has been working on carbon reduction for some time and is currently developing a draft Carbon Management Plan alongside the Carbon Trust and has already adopted a Sustainable Energy Strategy containing ambitious energy efficiency targets for itself as an organisation and for the Borough as a whole.
